Belle Kindergarten Summer School Students Raise Monarch Butterlies & Praying Mantises

Belle Alexander summer school kindergarten students are having an enriching and exciting experience in Mrs. Jurgensen‘s class. They are raising Monarch butterflies and praying mantises. They have also started an ant colony. Students are using an inquiry approach to ask questions and investigate these fascinating creatures. The Belle Alexander K-1 summer school program is in its second year of expanded programming due the COVID-19 pandemic. About 120 students signed up for the extended learning and enrichment this year. The program is supported by the Kewanee School District and the Regional Office of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant.
